IntroductionThis document addresses the installation of HP Colorado External Travan tape drives on PCs running the Windows XP operating system. The document covers different scenarios that may be encountered when installing the tape drive. For this reason you will be instructed to skip over a section depending on what you see on your screen. The objective is to get the tape drive working so you can restore your data. These instructions are intended for those who have migrated from a previous Windows version to Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional and need to restore data from previously created backup sets. It is also intended for those who may have created backup sets using the Windows XP native backup application with an HP Colorado External Travan tape drive and cannot restore the backup set. Very limited testing was done restoring backup sets created with the Windows XP native backup application using HP Colorado backup II v9.1. The test cases HP tried were successful. There is no guarantee expressed or implied that this will work in all cases. There is no guarantee expressed or implied that the HP Colorado External Travan tape drive, connected to your parallel port, will work on your particular system. If you have previously installed an HP Colorado External Travan tape drive on your Windows XP system you must uninstall (whether it is functioning or not). If it is working and you have been using the Windows XP native backup application to perform backups, but cannot perform restores, you must uninstall the tape drive. If you have previously installed HP Colorado Backup II, but have had no success using the drive, uninstall the software and the tape drive. The following instructions will attempt to help you do this. Skip to the section that applies to your situation. Removing HP Colorado Backup IIUse the Control Panel to Add or Remove Programs:
NOTE: Removing the software usually does not remove the folder that was created when the software was installed. Find this folder and delete it. If the drive still is not functioningUse the Device Manager to uninstall the device that Windows XP Plug and Play has installed. A device similar to 'VID_04E6PID80000002' will show up in one of two places. Look for this device under Computer Management, Device Manager, System Devices or Other Devices. Follow these instructions in either case.
